A survey revealed that approximately 40% of respondents Home Shopping Malls prefer to shop online for electronics, cosmetics and home appliances.

As customers seek efficient Home Shopping Malls methods to reduce their exposure to the pandemic, in-store shopping is experiencing a dramatic shift. A survey by Ernst & Young (EY), revealed that 78% of customers wouldn’t shop in crowded stores, but 76% would not spend more than 30 minutes in a retail store. Seventy-six percent of customers indicated that they would like to see their purchase sanitized again at the point where it was purchased.

EY conducted a survey among Indian salaried professionals entitled “Life in a Pandemic: Future of Retail” and found that customers now spend more time considering the purchase before making a purchase.

Nearby grocery stores are more convenient, have better sanitation measures and offer less crowding. Forty-six percent of customers choose to shop at new stores over regular stores. 67% of customers are reluctant to travel over 5kms to shop at their favorite locations. Customers who prefer shopping in malls or multi-brand stores said that half of them would rather shop closer to home.

70% of respondents expressed concern about safety and hygiene, and 56% said they would choose brands that provide better online services. Sixty-eight percent of respondents said they would use protective gear such as gloves and masks while shopping, and carry sanitisers.

69% of respondents desire to be able to see the product details without having them removed from their shelves. The survey revealed that a majority of customers would also pay a premium to help retailers make their in-store shopping experience more convenient, seamless, and contactless. The majority of customers prefer to pay using UPI or digital wallets, and use self-checkout kiosks.

The survey revealed that customers are being more cautious and less likely to spend on non-essentials. There has been a 20% increase in net spending for grocery and non-prescriptive categories of medical care.

Common terms for Home Shopping Malls and mall are used to describe any type of large shopping center. But they also refer to a fully planned, integrated retail development that is owned, managed, and operated by one business entity. It uses a network of pedestrian streets as its main circulation spine. A majority of shopping malls have at least 50 stores. They are often anchored by one or two department stores. These stores are designed to attract customers from the surrounding areas on a regular basis. Home Shopping Malls were created long before the mall was a major component of complexes like these. They were designed as alternatives to traditional retail environments and would draw shoppers due to their amenities as much as the goods and/or services they provide. J. C. Nichols was the pioneer of this concept in Kansas City. His Country Club Plaza was built incrementally over many decades starting in 1922. Wide sidewalks, ample parking, outdoor sculpture, ornamental buildings, fashion shows, parades and holiday pageants were just a few of the many features that attracted attention. They helped to set the standard for Home Shopping Malls in the future.
